The Proprietors

Cyd and Debbie Zeigler met in the late 1960s and married on Nov. 3, 1972. They soon had three children, Cyd Jr. ('73), Jessica ('75) and Greg ('77). They lived in Harwich, Mass., from the day they were married and raised their children there.

In the early '80s, Debbie's grandmother gave the couple 40 acres of land in Washington, Maine, where the Bed and Breakfast now sits. They built a cabin at the edge of the blueberry field, from which they watched many beautiful sunsets over the field.

Once the kids were all gone, Cyd and Debbie set their sites on moving to Washington, Maine. They built a big, beautiful barn to house all of Cyd's plumbing and construction materials; Cyd still does plumbing locally.

The Bed & Breakfast

The B&B is more than an inn, it is a lifelong dream for Debbie; And soon after the family began vacationing in Maine, she realized it was the perfect place to share her dream with visitors. They moved to Maine in 2006 and began erecting the bed and breakfast in 2007.

Autumn 2011. WOW!!! That best describes the summer of 2011. We were so blessed to have so many new and returning guests share their journey with us. It’s always wonderful to see a familiar face and particularly exciting to make new friends! Thank you to all who stayed with us and continue to be in awe of our piece of heaven!

The hummingbirds followed suit and the population increased by at least a dozen! They were wonderful entertainment on the front porch or from the dining room tables at breakfast. Thank you to those who sent me pictures of them…I never tire of seeing those amazing little birds!

We have added a ping-pong table to the game room. It’s a real hit and it’s great hearing the guests enjoying their game! Also, new this year, are the many rockers on the porch. I have finally got the “look” I’ve been desiring. I hope you all enjoy it!

The cooler weather is fast approaching (40 degrees yesterday morning) and the wood is stacked ready for those warm, inviting fires in the living room. We hope you find your way to Blueberry Fields and partake in the walks in the woods, apple picking in the local orchards and beautiful foliage that surrounds us this time of year.

Peace to your hearts and blessings on your journey, wherever it may take you.

Summer 2011. Summer is here and we're very excited! It's been a long, cold winter and spring, and now the flowers are in bloom, the grass is green and the sky is blue! We are loving life and looking forward to sharing it with you.

Our granddaughter Brianna is returning for the summer! She always adds such a welcome shine to our mornings – for all of those who remember her, she will again be serving breakfast! Our grandson Jordan will be arriving in August; We love to share some outdoor activities with him, and Cyd enjoys having me in the minority for a change!

Debbie has discovered new recipes this winter and can't wait to share them with you. The guests are still enjoying the coffee cake, muffins and cinnamon rolls....blueberry pie, chocolate chip cookies, peach pie and many other afternoon treats. If you have a favorite let me know and I'll be sure to have it prepared for you.

Cyd's been planting a new vegetable garden, caring for the old apple trees in the field and keeping an eye on the blueberry fields (this is a harvest year for us!). We're planning on doing a "pick-your-own" the end of July, beginning of August; so, if that's your thing, be sure to get your reservations in soon.

The town of Washington is celebrating it's 200th anniversary this summer (August 6th). It will be a lot of fun with parades, exhibits, food & fireworks. We have been decorating with flags and buntings around the town and on buildings.

We anticipate a successful second season and look forward to sharing our dream with all who choose to rest and relax with us at Blueberry Fields B&B!

Spring 2011. Spring is in the air and we are so ready for it!! Debbie planted tulips indoors and they are now in bloom…what a treat!! What a winter we have had with all the snow and cold temperatures. The bed & breakfast did very well keeping warm with our new wood stove. Many nights were enjoyed around the new round coffee table that Cyd made.

We truly enjoyed the outdoors this winter with snowshoeing and skiing. Even shoveling isn’t so bad when we consider it our work-out (it’s nicer than the gym, because we can be outdoors!).

We look forward to our second year of welcoming guests into our home. The first year was so memorable...everything we anticipated and more!

Whether you are coming to Maine for vacation, to take your loved ones to camp, a family event, the Washington Bicentennial celebration, one of the many fairs or any of the many other events going on, we hope you find your way to Blueberry Fields Bed & Breakfast.

As we welcome Spring and welcome our guests, we do so with a wonder and awe of being able to share with so many wonderful people. We never know who will walk through the doors next, and we anticipate the discovery of you as you share your journey with us!

Holidays 2010. We welcome the arrival of the holidays and the winter season. After enjoying a Thanksgiving with Debbie's brothers and sisters-in-law we are ready to decorate for Christmas! We have picked out our 15-foot tree and Debbie is taking her time figuring out where all the special (some over 30 years old!) decorations would look best for our first Christmas as a bed & breakfast. When you visit be sure to check out the "little lady" that was her Mom's!

Cyd has been working on our residence area that we have yet to complete. It is wonderful to have closet rods in our closets and our private stairs now have a railing! Now that Debbie has gotten the walls painted, the mud room will be done soon.

We are already getting bookings for next year...the Town of Washington is celebrating its 200th anniversary in August with special events all summer...very exciting!

We are hoping for lots of snow for those snowmobilers who need a place to rest while traveling the many trails across Maine, and for the cross-country skiers and snowshoers who would like to use the trails while staying with us.

Whichever holiday you celebrate we wish you much happiness, joy and memorable family gatherings. May peace be with you wherever the journey leads you, and if you're in the neighborhood, come on in and get warm.
May peace be with you wherever the road takes you!

Autumn 2010. Let us start by thanking all of you who have chosen to stay with us for our first season. It was wonderful meeting all of you and sharing our moments and memories!

After the fabulous summer we had…welcoming guests and making new friends…we now look forward to the cooler temps. Hiking, leaf peeping, apple picking and pumpkin harvesting are our favorite things to do in the fall.

We have added a woodstove, set on a fieldstone hearth, to the center of the first floor. It is a great addition to the comfort and warmth of the bed & breakfast. Between the warmth of the fire and the smell of an apple pie and apple cake baking (Debbie‘s apple cake is amazing!), you couldn’t feel more welcomed.

Cyd is busy keeping the trails cleared of fallen branches and has done a great job clearly marking it so it is very easy to follow. He is already talking of putting in an additional trail a little lower down for some added viewing of the ledge.

We look forward to welcoming you, whether it be in our cozy living room around the woodstove or on our spacious porch on a warm autumn afternoon.

May peace be with you wherever the road takes you!

Summer 2010. Welcome Summer!!! We have enjoyed a very beautiful Spring and look forward to the Summer season with all it’s warm temps, local activities, swimming and boating on the lakes, granddaughter arriving and making new friends of the guests we have coming to stay with us.

We are finished with the construction of the bed and breakfast and have taken a lot of pride in our accomplishment. We are thrilled with the reactions we get from people who are seeing it for the first time. The most common reaction is…”WOW!…this is beautiful!”

The flower gardens are in their second year and are doing very well. We marvel at every new bloom and enjoy the fragrances of our roses and peonies.

Debbie is enjoying the cooking, while always looking for new recipes to dazzle her guests with. Come and relax with us…the summer evenings are beautiful on the front porch (even the bugs are being especially kind and ignoring us…for the most part!), and the morning sun shines through the dining room while enjoying those fabulous breakfasts (or treat yourself and have your breakfast served on the porch while watching the hummingbirds and other wildlife).

Whatever your pleasure…Camden and Rockland are gearing up for a very busy season (check out our “calendar“ page)…come relax with us at the end of the day, or enjoy a peaceful get-a-way that is not effected by the hustle and bustle of neighboring towns.

March 2010. Spring is certainly in the air! We have been blessed with a fairly mild winter and not much snow. The frost is out of the ground and the daffodils are popping up everywhere…places I had forgotten I had them!

We have been staying very busy with the finish work on the inn. The main staircase is done and Cyd has done a tremendous job on them. We had a beech tree delivered last fall and he milled it with his own sawmill, and it is now our stair treads. He hand hewn them to perfection and Deb applied the finish to give them a freshly polished look. The rails are all done to code and fit the décor perfectly. The floors are awaiting their final coats of polyurethane, and then we can start putting the furniture out. Deb looks forward to bringing her grandmother’s piano out of storage and having that in the living room; Also, she can’t wait to fill the beautiful new bookcase Cyd built with the many boxes of books she has been storing!

We look forward to welcoming our first guests at the inn this spring!

December 2009. We have had a fabulous autumn and are prepared for whatever old man winter sends our way. We have been diligently working on the b&b: The walls are being painted and the ceilings are getting their final boarding (all walls and ceilings are well insulated to ensure a peaceful slumber). Debbie is trying to keep up with the varnish and paint while Cyd is getting the fine-finish work done. The heat will be going in before Christmas. Our children are joining us for Christmas and we are very excited about that. They will be our first “guests” in the guestrooms.

We have decided on May 1, 2010 as our opening date. We will be having an open house on Sunday, April 25, 2010 for anyone who wants to get a sneak preview! We became the 100th member of the Union Chamber of Commerce.

We hope this finds you all well and ready for the upcoming holidays and cold weather. Peace to your hearts and joy in your life.

August 2009. The summer is waning and we are still busy at it! In spite of all the rain, the blueberries did very well. The pickers were here last week and did a fine job of harvesting the crop. It is always such an amazing, and welcoming, sight to see them come. The majority of them are Jamaican and they get to chanting in their native tongue and it is fascinating. They are very polite, friendly and most of them speak very good English.

The wiring, fire-sprinkler system, plumbing, heat and smoke/fire alarms are all in the walls, and we are ready for insulation! The plan is to have that done within the next couple of weeks and then we will be having a sheetrocking party to get that done in a couple of days. We are looking forward to the transformation!

Deb has been busy designing and planting a new garden in the circle in front of the b&b. She is very excited with the project and enjoyed having help from her grand-daughter, Brianna, in the lay-out and plantings. The plantings are growing well and she hopes that by next year they will fill out and we will enjoy much of the flowers indoors as well as out!

We have enjoyed renting our cottage this summer to wonderful guests. Thank you to all of you have chosen to stay with us. We look forward to those who are going to stay here during foliage and hunting seasons. We already have some bookings and know it is a sign of the enthusiasm for the bed & breakfast.

The firewood is stacked and ready for our fall/winter. It will keep us warm and cozy when we come in from those wonderful hikes and skiing!

Peace to you all and thank you for your continued interest in our progress.

June 2009. We are working diligently to provide the comfort and peaceful surroundings that we would enjoy if we were guests at the inn. We appreciate all of you who have inquired for availability this coming summer and hope that you will keep us in mind for next summer and your future vacation needs. Keep in mind that although the B&B is not available right now, the cottage is available. There is still availability for the waning summer days of August, the beautiful autumn leaf-viewing in September and October and hunting in November.

Cyd has been busy installing the fire-sprinkler system, running the wires for electric, smoke alarm, television and AC units so that all of that "technical" stuff will be hidden from view!  Meanwhile, Debbie has been varnishing ceilings, kitchen stools and doors. She has been watching the gardens grow and knows that by next season they will be brilliant! We planted a couple of new rose bushes, rhododendrons and lupin this spring. And the hummingbirds are everywhere!
